Keystroke dynamics is used to address the inherent weakness of knowledge-based passwords. Current keystroke dynamics solutions work with static passwords. This concept adds a layer of security to password protection, but the user is still obligated to remember their password. Researchers from the BSPA Lab have investigated methods which do not require users to remember their password – instead they provide patterns for their typing rhythm for a bank of words. Every authentication attempt will provide a challenge word which is spontaneously generated from the bank of words. Current research is examining use of spontaneously generated passwords as a means of replacing knowledge based password, but still incorporate the advantages of keystroke dynamics.
