As we embark on our ninth year, we continue to have an active engagement agenda which builds on our achievements. 2010 will be an exciting year, new students entering our distance education programs, others graduating and starting a new chapter. In January 2010, we will be starting several new programs, as we build up to our tenth anniversary.
Online Education
At the 2009 Biometrics Consortium, we announced the start of our online offerings. We have three tracks, from certificate of completion through to graduate credit. Our graduate credit course will start in January 2010, and you can find more information out here. Our certificate of completion and continuing education unit courses are available now, and are self paced, allowing for the busy professional to advance their education, at the same time balancing work and family commitments.
Graduate Education Course Development
We have submitted a proposal for additional graduate classes which will make up a graduate certificate of completion. These classes will be offered online as well. More information will be posted online here.
Testing and Evaluation
We are planning an extensive testing and evaluation program for 2010. If you would like to find out more information about our program, please contact us.
Research Seminars
We are planning research seminars for 2010, our first one of this academic year on fingerprint interoperability. The increasing use of distributed authentication architecture has highlighted interoperability issues of biometric systems. Although interoperability is a system wide concern, this seminar will concentrate on the ongoing efforts at understanding fingerprint sensor interoperability. Researchers in the lab have conducted experiments over the past few years aimed at addressing the challenges related to sensor interoperability. The seminar will cover the following discussion points:
1. Importance of fingerprint sensor interoperability
2. Sources of issues related to sensor interoperability
3. Analysis framework for evaluating sensor interoperability
4. Discussion of experimental results and its practical applicability
If you are interested in joining us online, please click on our registration form. We’ll be posting additional seminar dates online in the New Year.
Travel
As we travel throughout the United States and the rest of the world each year, we are planning on having roadshows in several cities. We envisage having roadshows and one on one meetings in the following cities this year:
Atlanta, GA.
Miami, FL.
New York, NY.
Las Vegas, NV.
San Diego, CA.
Washington, D.C.
Seattle, WA.
More information will be posted on our website as we complete the final details.
Open Learning Environment
With our graduate course online, we are posting some of our research projects online. If you have any comments to suggest to students, please feel free to comment.
We look forward to a successful 2010.
