IT54500 Biometric Technology and Applications is the gateway course at Purdue University for biometrics. We are now accepting enrollment in the course for Fall 2010

For Information Security (CERIAS) students, this course fulfills elective requirements.

Biometric System Model & Performance Assessment
Fingerprint

e) Discussion of applied research in fingerprint recognition.
Face Recognition
a) History,
b) Face image acquisition techniques,
c) Face feature extraction methods,
d) Face matching methods,
e) Discussion of applied research in face recognition.
Iris Recognition
a) History,
b) Iris acquisition techniques,
c) Iris feature extraction method,
d) Iris matching method,
e) Anti-spoofing techniques for iris recognition,
f) Discussion of applied research in iris recognition.
Hand Recognition
a) Acquisition techniques,
b) Feature extraction methods,
c) Feature matching methods,
d) Discussion of applied research in hand recognition.
Keystroke Dynamics
a) History,

Human Biometric Sensor Interaction

Multibiometrics
a) Information fusion in biometrics.
b) Discussion on fusing two or more biometric technologies at sensor level,
c) feature level and matching score level.
Design of Experiments
a) Discussion of parametric and non-parametric tests.
b) Block design, randomized block designs, identification of experiment variables,
c) Appropriate statistical tests for biometrics research.
Biometric Standards
a) Discussion of national and international standards efforts.
b) Impact of biometric standards on biometrics research.

Laboratory Activities
There will be several laboratory activities that will cover fingerprint, face, iris, HBSI and others. All lab activities need to be completed in the lab.

You will need to bring a Form 23 to the Biometric Standards, Performance, and Assurance Laboratory in Knoy 378 in order to enroll for the course.
